ahh! cut me off. long story, it turns out I have weirdly placed ovaries and that’s why I have pain about every other month or so. but for a long time my crazy anxiety kicked in and I was convinced I had cancer or something really bad, and multiple tests and an ultrasound later, I had a tiny cyst and ovaries that are placed slightly lower than *normal people* whatever that means. anyway. Ladies healthcare amirite.
Yeah! I forgot that one of the reasons I discontinued hormonal birth control was the combo of It Makes Me Crazy plus Wait Isn’t This Bad For You?
But like. There’s no money to study that because there’s no prestige in laaaadies’ issues. So we don’t know! It might just be paranoia that leads some doctors to believe that there are negative long-term effects of using hormonal birth control, while other doctors don’t believe so but maybe that’s just because every woman of childbearing age just sort of expects to be on hormonal birth control because that’s a woman’s responsibility.
NOT HAVING BABIES UNTIL YOU WANT THEM IS A GENDER-NEUTRAL ISSUE. Anyone who has any kind of sexual contact that could result in zygotes should care equally about whether that happens.
(And I actually did flip out about this to my dude, and that’s part of the reason why he educated himself, because I said I can’t deal with this and also it’s only about 50% my problem, maybe even less, because you’re the one who’s adamantly anti-kids, and I don’t give a fuck. Like, I know it would be a terrible idea, but I just don’t care and have terrible decision-making skills anyway. So if you leave it up to me the odds are kind of even as to whether it’ll actually get handled. It’s in your court if you care about this. And he cared about it. Good for him. Our relationship, for better or worse, kind of has developed that way, as I’ve grown less and less able to cope with things as I get older and weirder. I’ve made various little ultimatums of “I don’t give a fuck, so if you do, it’s your problem,” and maybe I’m a pile of crap but that’s just how it is, I’m barely alive sometimes and I’m not planning all our meals anymore. If it has to be up to me, it’s frozen pizza every night until we die, that’s that. So he plans the majority of our meals. That’s that. I feel shitty about it but that’s all I got.)
If so much of our culture just didn’t casually see women as property, this wouldn’t even be a debate, but nobody thinks this through. We are all trapped in women-as-objects bullshit; women shouldn’t ever want to have sex, but consent is meaningless– and if she has icky gross pain and issues with her reproductive health then that’s just the punishment of Eve and it’s gross and she shouldn’t talk about it, let alone bother people wanting help for it, and ugh.
Ugh.
Also why would anyone ever have female subjects in medical trials or like, crash test dummy scenarios etcetera, because humans are male and females are objects.
NO ONE THINKS THIS THROUGH and it makes me very tired.
