I now believe it is canon that Sheppard brought War and Peace to Atlantis as a sleep aid.

ok a hilarious factoid:

my dad brought War and Peace with him when he went to Vietnam as an Infantry lieutenant in 1967. His cousin was doing a Russian Literature course and had given him her copy when she was done with it, and he brought it along because he figured it would last him a while.

He threw out his gas mask, as everyone did, and the novel lived in his gas mask holster. He carried it around, and let me clarify that the Infantry are on foot and carry everything with them so this was no trivial matter, and every time he had a break during daylight, he’d pull it out and read a little more.

He finished the book, and mailed it home. I don’t know what happened to that copy, but he did actually read the fucking book, after lugging it around on foot all through the Central Highlands region.

I don’t really know how to tie this back in but I keep thinking about it as it pertains to this bit of media, and it just makes me laugh without a punchline. My dad actually read War and Peace.

I tried, it’s on my Kindle somewhere, but I never got very far. He made it, though. (Your picture was not posted)
