new work! i missed Friday for business reasons. Er, busy-ness. So it’s gonna have to be a weekend because i’m booked solid for like. ever. anyway.

but here is a new story, which I have already forgotten the title of. It’s short, only half the length i usually post, and kind of a look behind the scenes at a bit of canon I haven’t much seen.

“You look so grown,” Emhyr said. And then he let go of Morvran’s shoulders. “Well. And these reports you’ve been sending. You’ve been busy, my boy.”

“I have,” Morvran said. Emhyr was pacing back and forth, deep in contemplation of something. Don’t be pathetic, Morvran reminded himself, but he couldn’t choke it down any longer, and finally asked, hating himself for it, “Have I done well?”

Emhyr laughed at that, looking up from his moving reverie, and came back over to stand in front of him. “Have you done well? Of course you have, my boy. I expected nothing less.” And he patted Morvran’s arm, then spun away again. “Now! But I have a new mission for you, and it’s a critical one.”

Hope you’re happy, Morvran thought to himself. It had to be enough. Sure, it was enough. All right. He lifted his chin a little. “Yes, sir,” he said.

“My daughter,” Emhyr said, and Morvran had to stare at him in blank incomprehension for longer than reason should have allowed for. “Cirilla, my actual daughter, no actual relation to the ill-omened false Cirilla we do not discuss, but the real Cirilla, verifiably herself, has been confirmed to be back on the Continent. She is being pursued by the mysterious forces of the Wild Hunt. We must track her down and rescue her.”

“Yes of course,” Morvran made himself say, rather than any of the tumble of questions that immediately presented themselves. As a division commander, as an Intelligence operative, answering those question was his concern, but speaking directly to the Emperor was no place for any of them. (Your picture was not posted)
