continuing the Meowvran backstory theme, LOL
and yes, I’m as surprised as anyone that I managed to get a new thing
written while at the farm for such a long stretch, but largely it was
bittylildragon https://www.tumblr.com/blog/view/bittylildragon‘s
extremely incisive editing that got me to focus on this enough to actually
finish it. So much love and credit there, and also to the cheer-readers and
lovely folks at KM for encouragement that I badly needed while so very,
very tired. (This past several days especially was generally Too Much,
really.)
but i’ve made it. and so, here is Morvran’s introduction to the Alba Division, and our introduction to a very chattery OC I do plan to make great use of going forward.
yes, there’s also war crimes in this one.
Unexpected Tricks, on AO3 https://archiveofourown.org/works/41288988
“I understand that every higher officer’s career is built off the strategic sacrifice of handfuls of enlisted and a smattering of keen young officers,” Tiron said, “I’m not begrudging anyone that, it’s the cost of war, but I’d rather not go out in something entirely futile that someone’s just doing to make a point, you know?”
“Oh, precisely,” the boy said.
“Though,” Tiron allowed, “if I die spectacularly and they name something after me, then my brother can point to that and attract himself perhaps a better grade of wife, maybe can get a position in the Trade Council– that’s the whole network of it, you know? But it’s scant consolation when you’re holding your own guts in your hands at the bottom of a muddy gorge someplace with a name you can’t pronounce.”
“Absolutely,” the boy said, and Tiron paused with a laugh and turned to look at the boy, who also stopped short with a puzzled expression.
“You’re a good listener,” he said.
“I try,” the boy said, putting on an earnest expression, which made Tiron laugh again. (Your picture was not posted)
