griddled donuts are the bomb!!! also i keep picturing farmbaby and that brown piglet having a miyazaki adventure
Farmbaby has had a few adventures with those piglets. Just now, though, they are pastured quite far from the house, so most days she does not get to see them. (There exists a great video from when the piglets were three or four days old, though, of Farm Baby counting them and then wagging each of their tails for them. She can count to forty! Just not in order.)
In huge progress, though, she is finally, finally learning to be gentle enough that she can play with the baby chicks. She’s good with the adult egg hens– they’re big enough, four or five pounds including feathers and all, that she can’t hurt them– and she’s actually fast enough to catch them if they’re not on alert. But the chicks– she loves the chicks, but as a Tiny Child she would grab too tight, and so we usually didn’t let her, for fear of hurting them. Now she understands a little better. And the Crotchety Old Grumpy Lady Cat (Beans, the tortoiseshell floof) who before used to only tolerate her while she was asleep now will actually willingly sit next to her. Last time I was there, Beans actually licked Farm Baby, affectionately. This had never happened before, and Farm Baby was astonished; she hadn’t known about cats’ sandpaper tongues!
This is what happens when your two-and-a-half-year-old hands finally advance beyond the GRAB EVERYTHING AND PULL stage and you finally learn what “gentle!” means. It means baby chicks, and kitty love.
I have mentioned that the farm has an Instagram, right? My sister updates it pretty frequently. I sometimes go look at it for Zen purposes.
