This vintage wrap top design is an easy beginners project: you don’t need a pattern, you can customise it to your own size, and despite lacking stretch it doesn’t require any zippers or buttons.
The top is made out of woven fabric https://wastelesscrafts.tumblr.com/post/657685954098757632/fabric-types and consists of a rectangle in which a hole for the head is cut. Straps are added to the short sides of the rectangle to tie the top around your body.
There’s a lot of variations on this top: to see examples, check out these written tutorials by Sew What Gilly https://href.li/?https://sewwhatgilly.com/2021/06/12/vintage-jiffy-wrap-blouse/, Freshly Given https://href.li/?https://web.archive.org/web/20130801222217/https://freshlygiven.com/blog/tutorial-grandmas-skirt-to-blouse/, Gina Michele https://href.li/?https://gina-michele.com/2018/03/22/how-to-sew-a-wrap-top-beginner-friendly-sewing-project/, Sadie the Sewing Machine https://href.li/?https://sadiethesewingmachine.wordpress.com/2012/06/21/vintagey-shirts/amp/, The Thread https://href.li/?https://blog.fabrics-store.com/2013/11/26/vintage-wrap-shirt/, and Mood Fabrics https://href.li/?https://www.moodfabrics.com/blog/mood-diy-retro-wrap-shirt/ .
AssunDIY on Youtube also has tutorials for two variations on this top: a rectangle shirt https://href.li/?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vytwO_LkACM version and a butterfly shirt https://href.li/?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ts3oYlUCGLc version.
Given the simplicity of this top, it’s a neat way to use up old bed sheets and such. Some examples:

Photo one shows a person wearing a wrap top made from a dark blue fabric with white flowers. The top has very wide sleeves. Text: “Free pattern + video”. Photo two shows the same top lying on a white background. It has a drop-shaped neckhole, two sets of straps (one thin and one thick), and round bulging sleeves.]
I made one of these on a whim out of scrap fabric the other day. So comfy! So fast to sew! Definitely recommend as a casual project.
Easy vintage wrap dress
[ID: a set of Tumblr tags: “#!!! #is there a way to add a skirt onto this and have it be a dress? (quizzical emoji).]
There’s a type of wrap dress that uses the same principle.

Butterick actually rereleased that last one recently, as part of their retro series. Same cover art and all. It might be still available. The pattern code is B4790. If it isn’t still available, you may be able to find one secondhand. I think Gertie might’ve posted about it on her sewing blog.
Word on the street (the sewing… street…) is that that Butterick walk-away dress pattern is a surprising pain in arse.
the walkaway dress is actually really easy to draft for yourself
it’s a long panel at the front, a back panel and a half circle skirt
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/99/71/a7/9971a7a43354c93b099cfaeb52c458ba.jpg
use a non stretch top you already have to mock up the top, draw around it and mark where any darts are [darts can be pinned in place, they are to shape the fabric into curves, so you lengthen the front piece so it reaches your knees, cut off the back piece at the waist and add the half circle skirt
https://www.itsalwaysautumn.com/easy-half-circle-skirt-sewing-tutorial.html
gather that into the waist band at the back
trim the lot in bias tape
https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/bias-tape-qanda-2977495
and add the fastening of your choice
the butterick pattern is notorious for being a poor fit, they changed the pattern for modern sizing and it just went wonky somewhere, but you can draft it yourself,
https://littleoldladymakes.blogspot.com/2015/03/gbsb-walkaway-dress-butterick-b4790.html
to put this in perspective I sell a version of this pattern in 1/6, ¼ and 1/3 scale, when I said it’s easy to draft its experience talking
