Thoughts inspired by this delightful comic & equally delightful image.
Little bit of background first though, as a means of showing where I’m coming from. If you just want the floof, it’s under the cut. :)
BB-8′s escape & continued evasion seems to be the initial source of conflict between Hux & Kylo, & continues to be a sticking point throughout the film. After Hux’s troops fail to retrieve BB-8 from Jakku, Kylo takes a more proactive role in the search, going so far as to contravene Snoke’s orders & threaten Hux. He demands the droid is brought to him unharmed, regardless of Snoke ordering for it to be destroyed if it couldn’t be retrieved.
Later, once he’s captured Rey, he calls off the search for BB-8. By this time, Hux’s attentions & efforts would have been focussed on preparing Starkiller Base’s weapon to take out the Hosnian system, as per Snoke’s orders. To my mind, this puts the onus of blame for the BB-8 shenanigans squarely on Kylo’s shoulders.
