so a fundamental fact about me is that i am the sort of person who has a basement full of boxes of hoarded things, and in my case since i took up sewing about 17 years ago, those boxes have mostly been filled with fabric, or more commonly, things made of fabric that i no longer wanted, but wanted to take apart to reuse the fabric. which is sort of horrible, and creeping, and– well, when you realize that my relationship with clothing was what it was (described in my earlier post https://bomberqueen17.tumblr.com/post/675986449044324352/overclocked, my wardrobe sensitibility for most of my formative years was well if it goes physically onto my body then I guess I have to wear it because that’s what I have), it sort of makes sense that I’d wind up with this sort of frenzied sort of hoarding drive to never let go of anything.

Anyway. I know that most of my attempts at sewing over the last nearly-two-decades have been somewhat hampered by, first, me not fitting into any patterns or garments, and secondly, by my reluctance to actually cut into new fabric; most of what I’ve successfully made has been self-drafted historic shit like kirtles and t-tunics, OR garment reconstructions where I started off with a thing that mostly fit me and combined it with another thing so it all the way fit me.

So this latest hyperfixation has involved actually buying real sewing patterns, rather than hacking things I got for free, and I had sort of resolved that I was also going to buy fabric for real. And I have, I put in orders for some, plus I scrounged through my hoarder basement and found the boxes that had actual uncut yardage, so I could pull that out. And I am going to use it, I really am, but–

well last night I noticed that I could fit both bodice fronts and backs of a Cashmerette Turner https://www.cashmerette.com/products/turner-dress-pdf-pattern in my size onto a single unisex L t-shirt (which is significantly too small for me to wear as-is, but since the Turner bodice is shortish, I can stagger the front and back and have each somewhat overlap the side seams of the t-shirt). What’s more, with a slight alteration to the neckline of the pattern, I could also keep the design on the shirt intact. [image: image]

heck I might keep that, I have little interest in a low-V-neck on these dresses. By coincidence both Cashmerette patterns I’ve made so far have had a V-neck, and it turns out I hate it. So probably everything’s just getting made as a scoop henceforth.

AND I could squeeze in the SLEEVES of the pattern– not quite onto the shirt’s old sleeves themselves, but onto the scraps of torso left over, so that’s a bonus!

So here’s my sexy self gremlining in my gross basement in my first-ever Turner muslin, but I’m going to try this on with a real bra this morning in daylight before I make any choices about what kind of skirt I’m putting on this muslin. [image: image]

I’m going to do a muslin from real yardage I promise, before the real yardage I ordered comes. I’m going to do it, I’m going to cut into virgin fabric.

But also I’m going to make every gross old t-shirt in my gross basement into dresses because I need to get them out of my gross basement. (Your picture was not posted)
