in a conversation somewhere, probably on Discord, someone was discussing Geralt peeling oranges for Ciri because he’d seen a dad peeling oranges for his daughter, only the daughter in question there was like two, and I was struck with the image of Geralt peeling oranges for his 25-year-old daughter, and feeding them to her baby-bird-style if her hands are too grimy to take them, and I just want her to always be his spoiled baby for her entire life, even when she’s a busy accomplished badass grown woman capable of anything– and they can both be delighted and completed by this, that she is capable of anything but confident enough to let him spoil her, and he knows she can do anything she wants to but he’s going to still peel her oranges for her because she’ll let him.

And it feeds into this theme I seem to have going in various of my works, of love being a choice, a thing you choose to do, a thing you allow to happen to you, a thing you negotiate how to give to one another, a thing unconditional but always made new. (Your picture was not posted)
