chapter update: Under The Table

i know. i know it took me a MONTH to update and when i do it’s. well. listen. the scene had to play out before i knew if i could cut it, and now it turns out the whole thing was over 10k. so i had to cut it in half.

so this chapter is a full-length chapter that’s half a scene. which like…. i did that to peace-tied too, so.

i’m updating early because i’ll be traveling for the end of the year. (everyone’s covid tests are negative!! we’ll find out when i come back how that worked out, but at least for now, it means seeing family.) so maybe i’ll be able to squeeze in one more update in 2021, and maybe not. we’ll see.

meanwhile, here is the beginning of something sort of sweet.

Roche pulled the lacing of his gambeson loose, and stood to shuck the garment. “I want to see the rest of that tattoo,” he said. “It’s only fair.”

“Maybe I don’t want to show you,” Iorveth said, scowling.

“Maybe I misunderstood what you’re after, here,” Roche said, holding the gambeson in his hands after having pulled it off over his head. He laid it aside on the bench, and turned back to Iorveth, loosening the tails of his shirt where they were tucked into his trousers. “Did you want to sit next to me and hold hands? Or is this just an excuse to admire my beautiful tattoos?” He pulled his shirt off over his head, and turned slightly, flexing his arm to show the horrifyingly crude naked woman on his bicep, tits akimbo, a desecration to his flesh and poorly-done to boot. “You could read all the slogans, I don’t know what some of them say. Maybe get a pen and paper and transcribe them for me. That’s what you came here to do?”

“Oh,” Iorveth said, “it’s inversely correlated, isn’t it. So the harder I pull your hair the less insufferable you get.” (Your picture was not posted)
