I just can’t resist positioning Morvran as kind of a parallel to Cahir, as they’re kinsmen and of similar backgrounds, and I really want to play with Ciri rejecting this notion of people deciding without her input that they’re going to die for her. I don’t outline well but I’ve semi-sketched a bit with her rejecting Morvran’s offer of the same thing and him exhaustedly explaining to her that if she’s chosen to be an empress that’s what happens, people die for you– and anyway then she demands that he live for her instead, and there’s your ship manifesto.

(only of course i do plan for it to be an OT3 so the reason they’re in that position in the first place is that Lu is so fond of him and wants to keep him, LOL.)

But yeah, if i want Cahir in this story I need to explain who he is, because Netflix sure as fuck isn’t going to have that character as written.

I also feel like– the books got a bad rap. They’re not flawless, no, but a lot of people early on were like “ah they’re not worth reading don’t do it” so I didn’t, and then I finally was like no i need to know what happens, and yeah I don’t care much for the first few in the series, that sequence where Ciri’s story really takes off is fucking– I mean there’s some really great shit in there.

But I get that they’re not the most wildly accessible pieces of content for most fans; there’s a lot of upsetting shit, there are some overly-precious framing devices that make it damned hard to keep track of what’s going on, and they’re hard to sink your teeth into, and– anyway I am enjoying moving into book fandom as I move my timeline past the end of W3 (and I hope I’m joss-proof enough to withstand the imminent netflix S2, i tell you what) but I also feel like I really don’t want my shit inaccessible to people who just couldn’t get through the books, for whatever reason.
