I’m reading that Poe Dameron is a farmer fic thanks to the art by @stitchyarts and I can’t believe I have never given this fic a chance before, it’s all I’ve ever wanted. FINN IS A LAYWER AND POE DAMERON IS A FARMER ON AN ORGANIC FARM IN OREGON, AND ALSO THE SON OF GUATEMALAN MIGRANT WORKERS, EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL AND NOTHING HURTS.

I have in fact read most of the fics in that series (Organa’s Organics). It’s possible I didn’t kudos all of them (any of them? Pff I really hope I was better than that) because I was on my phone and navigation is difficult– but yes, they were some of the first fic I read in the fandom, back before I was officially allowing myself to be Into It to this extent. I binged them all on my phone during a dark time, so. It was quite some time ago!
My little sister, the one who actually runs an organic farm, did not see the Star Wars movie, so I didn’t rec them to her, but she does know about fanfiction (she’s been a supernatural fan from the beginning and has let slip that she’s suuuper into Destiel) so I certainly told her the fics exist, and she laughed and said there’s fanfic for everything. If she’d seen the movies I’d’ve made her read one because it’s cute, but she doesn’t even know who the characters are and that makes me sad. (She got stuck babysitting while everyone else went to the movie and she was just so glad to get some sleep that she never pursued it. I don’t normally discuss fannish things with my family but I made an exception for this!)
Anyone reading this can consider this a rec, if you like cute– it’s cute, cute, cute, really thoroughly cute, and sweet, and has some plot and like, semi-realistic depictions of human emotion and all (I’m not backing off the “cute” assertion, I’m just saying, it’s also good). (I’m really… if this is spoilery, sorry, but this is where the series goes: I’m not into marriage fics though, it’s becoming a marked thing as I get older; it’s not [just] that I’m old and bitter, I don’t think, so much as that I just don’t get it and the public-speaking-y aspects of it squick me more? Like, oh god, everybody’s looking at you, and now you have to eat cake, that sounds fucking awful. Regardless of the character, it always hits me that way. Anyway.) For basically literally everyone else in the world that’s not a thing, so this can be a much more whole-hearted rec.
(what a stupid squick to have, am i right? i always make myself read it anyway but here’s the portal to my weird mind: i read the wedding scenes with like, one eye shut, like oh man, this is brutal, but i gotta know what happens so i can finish the rest of the story. as if it were a gory torture scene, only I can just– read those. I don’t know what my deal is, guys. and it’s usually clearly the highlight of the story for the writer and clearly, literally every other reader, and I’m like, peering through my fingers, like oh god, there won’t be doves will there? AGH NO ACK oh the humanity, fuck, there’s cake, there’s always cake. NO NOT THE CUTE FLOWER GIRL MAKE IT STOP.)
(And, I guess, this is a warning to anyone who reads my shit: if you were figuring on a happy white wedding in literally any of my ongoing WIPs, nnnope.)
There’s also babies, later on in the series. Tractors, babies, realistic exploration of what it takes to adopt a child by actual legit methods, and BB-8 is a horse, and there’s really cute well-negotiated mild kink, and in general, if you are in a very dark place like I was at the time, and have data on your phone, you should load that series up and devour it. Only don’t do as I do– leave some decent feedback, which I’m sure I didn’t.
I apologize if this comes across as a lukewarm rec, it’s really not meant to be. Just, lately I seem to have been reccing mostly hardcore smut and like, cannibalism, so– this is not that, this is not a searing brutal look at the human condition, this is what it says on the tin, and I do not wish to understate how pleasantly absorbing it was when I needed it. (There weren’t really doves. It was okay. But everybody looked at them and they had to talk about shit in public. I had to walk it off and come back to it.)
Also Finn is not a helpless baby in it; he’s young but he’s a grown adult and makes his choices and has a very complex situation with his parents that is handled very sensitively. Oh and he gets his canonical back injury pretty dramatically, IIRC.
I don’t know that it’s got that exacting a depiction of the actual daily life of an organic farm, LOL, but that’s not what people are going into this for. (I think my experience of that is skewed anyway.)
