weekend trip

so I am taking a lil weekend trip to Watkins Glen and surroundings. We rented an AirBNB and it did mention in the listing that it’s an 1830s house that’s been heavily renovated. We arrived after dark, with a detour through Rochester to get garbage plates.
The driveway doesn’t go to the house, it goes to a ruined garage, and then you gotta hike down thru the yard. Which was fine, if unexpected. The neighbors have “POSTED no trespassing” signs in a solid line along the property line, which you gotta figure has a fun backstory.
I poked at my phone and figured out which way north was, so I concluded that the lovely screened porch faces east. So this morning I toddled down and made coffee and sat there. As the sky gradually lightened I realized that I had a lovely view of…. a fallow field full of goldenrod and……
a burnt-out shell of a house. Nice!
I’m actually delighted by this, it’s pure rural Upstate New York charm. I’m less delighted by how wildly not-level the house’s floors are, which includes there being a sill into every new room, which I keep tripping over. But it is adorable and weird and quirky, and I do like that.
Today we’re seeing The Eponymous Glen and hopefully some waterfalls. (Your picture was not posted)
