So.
I bought the plans for the Vermont Cottage C https://jamaicacottageshop.com/shop/component-vtccl-plans/?attribute_size=16X24+-Plans+Only, which has a porch along the short end, and a partial loft over the porch.
BIL thinks that we can build it for ¼-½ the price of the pre-cut kit, and in less time as well, so I went ahead and bought just the plans.
So today we went with the 100ft tape measure and four stakes, and went out to the site, and put in the posts in various places and worked out the layout. Makes the most sense to me to do it oriented with the longer direction east-west, meaning the porch can either face eastward or westward. Given that the loft area is probably where I’ll put my bed, that means I either will watch the sunrise, or have a shorter walk to the outhouse in the middle of the night.
So either I get this view, to the east:
(all the junk will get removed of course, it’s just various crap lying around. hi cows in the background!)
or this view, to the west:
(again, of course, the junk will be removed. Foreground, there, that blackened debris is the remains of the burnt yurt platform 😭.) You can’t really see it but the winter livestock barn is in the middle, through the trees; the dark line midground is the cut of the creek bed. The creek is about ten feet down; this is a high gravel bank. Just off camera to the left is the outhouse that serves staff working in the garden, which is to the south of the site.
So, either view is nice, and i’m kind of torn. Sunrise? Or sunset view?
I’m really excited at the thought that it has gone from might to probably will happen. I’m trying to be chill, though. (Your picture was not posted)
