i have three sisters. I have had three sisters since April 16th, 1985. This is some not-small number of years, and indeed makes up most of the time that I have been conscious in this world.

Where this post is going is that, well– I mean, I’ve had a lot of reasons to note what day it is lately, I’ve been worrying about taxes being due the 15th, I’ve been giving the 17th as the day I’ll probably next travel to the farm, I’ve definitely been aware of what fucking day it is

but–

possibly you have guessed where this is going.

Yes it wasn’t until just now that I was looking at an unrelated thing and it said “deadline April 16th” that it struck me that

well

april 16th is coming up

like right now

and that’s my sister’s birthday

and I haven’t like. planned. for that. at all. FUCK

yes, but if you owe taxes and don't make a payment on the estimated due amount (or if you do and that amount is wrong) by 4/15 then you owe a penalty :) it's great :) the extension is basically useless unless you know you don't owe any money
and i don't know, because NYS hasn't actually passed the necessary legislation to determine what taxes unemployed people owe

ughhh why are taxes like this?? such tomfoolery. I'm sorry. :( I know something went into effect on the federal level about not taxing the first $10k of unemployment. I went from owing like $$$$ to only $$ when I logged into Turbotax this morning. but yeah, i guess I didn't realize there must be something more granular with the state level stuff.

apparently filing taxes elsewhere in the world is, unsurprisingly, not a kafkaesque nightmare. ugh.

It turns out I was incorrectly informed and you DON'T have to pay your estimated taxes on the 15th which is great! I did but you don't have to.

Can you imagine, if the US actually operated for its citizens instead of for the like 25 wealthy donors who actually own the country??? it would be so great.

well that's good to hear!! and while I have an amazing imagination, I find it incomprehensible that the US would actually create policies and implement them that would benefit the people that it's supposed to be serving. oof!!
