so anyway i now have my own VCR at work, with a lil Media Digitizing Device hooked up to it, and it’s set up in the closet where I have my computer, because there’s a whole cart downstairs full of VCRs I dunno how to use, next to the 8mm machine that I do know how to use, and somehow the effective thing was to add a new station and put it upstairs. I won’t complain tho, I can keep track of things better this way.

But I discovered that the only thing worse for my ADHD than the existing setup is the existing setup with the addition of the tinny playback of various horrible VHS tapes in the background. I could mute the thing, but then I won’t know when it’s over. The lowest volume setting, inside that closet, is incredibly noisy. Yesterday I tried to work with a Pee-Wee hockey championship going in the background and it was maybe the worst thing I’ve ever had to deal with. I thought I’d be fine but as we rounded the corner and came down the backstretch toward Hour Two I was seriously at the end of my rope.

Anyway. Send me your dumb old VHS tapes, I now have additional power.

Despite that, I managed to survive Friday. In non-work news I’ve now finally slogged through the climax bit of the Keira/Lambert/Aiden thing, and I’ve crept up to the part Martha Wells terms “And They All Went To Lunch And Felt Better”, which is where you’ve got to pick through the aftermath of the climax and set everyone on the path toward the happy ending or whatever resolution the book’s got.

These guys don’t want to go to lunch and feel better, they want more drama. But, helpfully, Aiden is stealing the scene:

“[terrible pun about spoiler],” Aiden said.

Aiden,” Lambert said.

Aiden stared at him a moment, dumbfounded. “Did you just–” He turned to Keira. “Did you hear him take that tone with me? Him? That tone? Me?”

“It’s too soon,” Lambert said. “We are literally still– you cannot make jokes about [spoiler], it is too soon.”

“[gasp terrible pun only with dawning realization], fuck,” Aiden said, and put his free hand over his eyes. “In my defense, it’s a reflex.”

Keira didn’t mean to laugh, but it snuck out in a kind of snort and she covered her face. “You just lost your I died free hits,” Lambert snarled.

“Fuck,” Aiden said, “I was going to milk that for years, too.”

“Too bad, pal,” Lambert said.

anyway I meant to post a chapter on Friday but then Thursday was Friday and I wasn’t ready so I’ve got 30k of backlog to post before I get to this part but that might see us through these dark times. Ha, optimism, like there’s an end– well maybe there is. Let’s try it. Let’s try believing that.

I’ll put a chapter up today and we’ll be one step closer to the and-they-all-went-to-lunch-and-felt-better scene I still have not written because Aiden is so busy being a little shit. (Your picture was not posted)
