Welcome to B’s Coping Corner, here is a lengthy chapter update with a lot of crunchy emotional shit to chew on.

Keira gets a nap, tho. And they do talk! Heh heh.

But the exciting thing is that I finally had a bit of a breakthru yesterday and I think I know how this story ends so that’s super-hopeful and I’m delighted.

“Well, no,” Aiden said, “of course not.” He gave Keira a surprisingly winning grin, a little rakish and almost flirty. Oh, he was definitely going to kill her. She smiled back.

“Oh?” She bit her lip, raising her eyebrows flirtatiously, and swallowed down her terror. “What’s this about, then?”

His eyes narrowed, his eyebrows drawing down a little. “Here’s the thing,” he said, face screwed up in confusion, “I’m used to people being afraid of me, but I have watched you make lightning with your hands, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what’s got you so terrified right now.” He took a half-step back and crossed his arms over his chest. “Did you run the whole way here? What’s going on?”

“Nothing,” she said brightly. “It’s fine.” Fuck, and now he’d be angry– it was a funny thing, how if you were afraid of a man it was your problem, and if he noticed that you were afraid of him it was your problem, and sometimes he’d get so angry that you dared think he’d hurt you that he’d hurt you for it.

Oh, Keira had been a mage for a long time, had certainly had power a long time, but it hadn’t been her entire life, and even as a mage, she didn’t always have access to enough power to make it not her problem.

If she just turned and ran– well, then the jig was up, if you show fear they always pounce on it, if you run they pursue, and this man had nearly a foot of height on her and most of it was leg. Even if he weren’t a Witcher he’d have no problem catching her in open terrain like that and then she was done. (Your picture was not posted)
