but i am just so astonished, at the weird cognitive dissonance, anyway, the witcher, censorship

Content creators who are concerned that the rules of the exchange don’t adequately protect them from not getting listed as sex offenders are encouraged to (a) find other fandom events that they feel better protect them from not getting listed as sex offenders; (b) consult their own lawyers about how best not to get listed as sex offenders; and © consult their own mental health professionals. For the record, since F&S is too graceful to say it:

F&S is being run on the same model as AO3, where everyone has to click through a notice stating that they are of age to consume adult content, in order to see M or E prompts or material.

Meanwhile EBB is also allowing adult content and says the following (in this post which is too long for me to rb):

As it stands in the server we do has a strict and clear separation of nsfw channels and general channels. As we cannot ask for proof of someones age other than an intro stating as such we follow a policy of if we find out you aren’t the age you say you are then you are instantly banned from the server and not allowed to participate in the event.

Which... if you read it... that policy consists of... taking on faith that you’re the age you say you are.

Which is exactly the same thing as AO3 taking your word for it when you click on that disclaimer, which is good enough for their lawyers, so it’s good enough for me. It’s good enough all around! Also it is the same.

On top of all that, it is entirely wild to me that people seem to genuinely think there’s some government authority that is going to involve itself in fanwank about fictional characters. I mean, I shouldn’t be surprised, this isn’t new, but like. (Also, if they did involve themselves, they’d care so much that your adult material wasn’t Problematic??? Well this is just explicit gay sex, that’s fine, but that one, oh ho there’s toesucking, better arrest ‘em! Like, how do you think any of this works?)

And it's also entirely wild to me that they think that if this government authority did exist, that that would be a good thing!! Have they...um...looked at government lately?

hahahah good.

It's so weird because it is not actually illegal for minors to read sexually explicit fiction. It's really really not. Some YA books have explicit scenes. Nobody gets carded for adult fiction at the bookstore or the library. Nobody's going to jail for giving a teenager a book with sex in it. So OK, if it makes you feel icky, so be it - but bringing legalese into it is such a bizarre overreaction.
