oh man one time i got a good deal on those retractable measuring tapes? The kind that’s a little hard circle object and then you pull the tape out one side, and it retracts when you’re done? Those things are great. it was like a pack of three of them for super cheap and i was delighted because i love them convenient little shits and yet always lose them so I was really excited to get a mutipack.

I got them and was delighted and put them in various of my sewing kits, and used one for something little, it was fine, and it was only a bit later when I had to measure something larger, of course with my mother present, that I got it out and used it and was like… wait this… isn’t right.

I looked closer, and realized that whoever had made it had clearly been told that a foot was 40cm and they should go from there. Because the metric side was fine, but the standard side was…. well, if you make your foot be 40cm long, you’ve got some problems with your inches.

Absolutely hysterical. We all had a really good laugh, in the moment. I didn’t throw them out but I lost them immediately anyway so it was just as well. Would’ve been really great for a prank someday but like. Uh.

Yeah it’s so fucking cursed to have a ruler that’s wrong, especially when it’s subtle enough that you don’t immediately notice. (Your picture was not posted)
