writing woes

i am currently in the part of the Miscommunication Plot where there is a lull in things that are keeping them from Talking It Out and I am really struggling with how to keep this going but i know how it resolves and it can’t yet so I’m definitely going to have to insert some sort of Action Beat here to make this work.
Also for some bizarre reason I have become incredibly preoccupied with getting one of the (male) characters to wear a crop top. I suddenly feel like I must know how fanservice artists feel. I’m like, compelled, IDK what to do about this.
Logical brain: I am a text artist! It doesn’t matter what the characters are wearing, this is not a visual medium. meathead brain: nnngh b e l l y b u t t o n
anyway here’s a snippet since it’s forever since I’ve done one of those, and it has no bearing on anything currently published and isn’t particularly spoilery.
“What the f– oh, it’s Keira,” Aiden said, lowering his sword for a moment and wiping his brow on his sleeve. “Hey, I didn’t know you could fly.”
“I can’t fly,” Keira said, mildly annoyed. Lambert was right there, and while he looked a bit tired and flustered he was uninjured, and was currently gritting his teeth as he held an Yrden trap on the [thingy].
“Are you going to hit it or what?” Lambert asked.
“Yeah, yeah,” Aiden said. “Uh, sorry, I’m distracted by the flying sorceress.”
“I’m not flying,” Keira said.
“Sorry,” Aiden said, “the flying pedant,” and leapt at the [thingy] with startling grace.
