tmi about menstruation, under cut; little other content here but whining, so

My period is a couple of days late; I hauled all my supplies to the farm and then ran out of non-period underwear and dude had to bring me a couple of pairs of Normal Underpants. (I have acquired a small collection of reusable Thinx-type stuff, though no actual Thinx brand, who knows.) (it’s not even any great commitment to sustainability, so much as it is a surpassing laziness and disinclination to haul all kinds of plastic shit back and forth across the state all the time. Also I have some cloth pads that I’ve just realized must be fifteen years old, but as I was never organized enough to find them all at once, some of them are quite lightly used indeed.)

This morning I thought, well, if I don’t get it today I should maybe worry, though I can’t imagine what I’d worry about specifically. Still.

I felt a twinge but thought it might be psychosomatic. Took off pajamas; no sign of anything. Sat on my duvet for a moment as I fished through my bin of socks and then went and found a pair of underpants, got dressed. Left the room. Came back. Was astonished to notice a splotch of bright red blood on the paisley-patterned duvet, which has a white background, of course.

There was only one possible source. Went and checked. In fact, it was me. I’d been about to leave the house in light-wash jeans. I am 41 years old. I know what day it is. It was an issue I had actively considered. And yet, I had not done anything to prepare, and it’s only at the cost of the duvet cover and the fact that I changed the sheets fucking yesterday– well, I’m a gross asshole and I just blotted it away with a cold wet washcloth, we’ll deal with that later.

Anyway– now I have brutal cramps, an hour and a half later, so thanks for that, self. Kids, it doesn’t get bettter, WTF.
