Americans: It’s not reasonable to expect people to miss spending holidays with their families, even for a greater social good! Family comes first, always!
Retail workers, who have a time-off request blackout for all of November and December:
yeah maybe that’s part of my shit here. like. i have missed thanksgivings and christmases with my family, so many times, for basically all of my 20s? for stretches of my 30s? that’s not why i’m here, i’m here for work. for fucking once i’m here for work. and usually i have to drive back on thanksgiving day so i can be here for black friday, and this year because of the bullshit they’re like no don’t bother, and that’s great.
i cannot tell you how many times “i’ll be home for christmas” has made me fucking cry at my airport job, at my retail job. One time when I was a bartender I bid on a shitty shift schedule in fucking March because it gave me Wednesdays and Thursdays off and that meant I’d be off for Christmas Eve and Day and nobody could make me come in. I worked a shit-ass shift for nine fucking months so that I could see my folks on Christmas, because I hadn’t in years.
Anyway. I would absolutely be staying my ass the fuck home, and I will be, for Christmas, if I did not have to personally murder these fucking turkeys.
(ayy so far no anon hate on my previous post? and only one person being a sanctimonious ass? nice. Nicer than I anticipated. thanks, guys, almost all of you are real decent folks.)
