[image description: a tweet by [profile] tneenan dated 10/6/20 that reads “ARTICLE: How, at the age of just 22 did this man… ME: Is it rich parents? ARTICLE: … Yeah.”]

increasingly i keep reading these like, profiles of artists and creatives too, and i’m like “wow how’d they make a go of it” and they’re like “I just had to believe in myself! :)” and you read further and it is astonishingly clear that the answer is “I had another means of supporting myself so I was free to pursue my art” which is like, not the same fucking thing at all! I used to not notice it so much but now it’s every single fucking artist spotlight I come across.

Anyway.

Think about that: the only creatives who have time to fully express themselves are, maybe if they’re lucky students and children, and then the independently wealthy, and how long has our society lived like that, and how much worse is it now with growing income inequality?

(I only have the time to write as much fanfiction as I do because I only have to work one job, because my partner makes a fair wage for his work and is frugal.)
