eh? eh? a bat-free night?????

either that or i just zonked the fuck out.

i did wake up around 4 briefly, only to notice that i could not hear a
rooster. I just heard him, though, there’s the one little Homburg that
lives in the pig barn and I was worried he’d died or something but i guess
he was just taking a break.

Yesterday evening I finally managed to run my little copper pot still– I’d
fermented some maple sap that I’d boiled to the right concentration and
pitched champagne yeast, and I think I put yeast nutrients in, I’m not
sure. there was sediment, I’d decanted it into some juice bottles and left
it in the fridge for over a year, and anyway this year’s apprentices were
so curious I hauled all of it here for them and ran a batch while both of
the young men sat and were curious and polite about it. Seriously the one
boy is so over-the-top polite, he said “thank you” no less than six times
one day when I made lunch, and during the distilling he thanked me for
showing him like, repeatedly through the process and then at the end was
like “seriously I appreciate both of you so much” to me and my sister, it
was adorable.

I also set up the canvas bell tent I impulse-bought over Instagram DMs
like, early May, that finally arrived last week.

It’s too small, I cant’ fit any kind of bed in it. it’s three meters, but
that apparently includes the guy ropes. So it’s mostly perfect as a child’s
play tent, really. I don’t think it’ll do at all for my purposes; I’m forty
and have hypermobile hips so I will not be sleeping in a sleeping bag on
the floor of it, and a bedroom I cannot get dressed in is not really for me.

So, that was a waste, but I will surely find a good use for it. Now, at
least there’s not a danger of me getting evicted from this guest room
anytime soon, which is the main reason it’s not super suitable– nobody else
can visit, so I won’t wind up itinerant. I can’t leave anything here, and I
can’t have much privacy, and i can’t watch the sunset, but.

I will look for a gross old used camper, next. That makes sense. I don’t
need it to be in any kind of good shape, but I do need it to be in better
shape than the one currently parked out where the yurt was– that one’s
gutted and has broken windows. So my criteria are: pretty much any size
above the threshold of the ones you can’t stand up in, has intact windows
and doors, possibly has furniture but I don’t really care, just needs to be
roadworthy enough to get it here, ideally has a roof that doesn’t leak but
I can work with whatever.

But, at the moment, my budget is zero, since I haven’t gotten paid since
March. So maybe that’s a later proposition, and maybe it’s a next year
proposition if they end up deciding I’m not eligible for unemployment after
all.

I got about ¾ of a half gallon container, so whatever that is, of some
pretty fiery stuff. Needs a lil age on it before I can really judge what I
made.

Very cute! Just begging for some colorful lil banners or pompoms. Very
glampy. Way too small, there’s a center pole and I know I can’t fit my
camping cot in there because of it. Oh well. Kids’ cots will fit fine. Or
it could be a lovely guest quarters once I have my whatever-I-get to
replace the yurt.
