i am SUPER INTO being asked questions, that party is NEVER OVER. Hi!!!!!
Farm is good, I haven’t been there in like A MONTH which is driving me slowly insane, but my coworker’s schedule was such that I just couldn’t find a good interval where I could go. I’m going again the 20th.
The yurt– Dad built me a phenomenally well-engineered platform for it, basically a 2x6 framework like you do with balloon-frame houses, and I’ll put that on cinder blocks I can salvage at the farm, and then there’s plywood I’ll screw down onto it, and then the yurt will go up on that.
(Progress photo. In the background the weird tubing in the trees is from when they tapped the maple trees this spring. Behind the tubing is where the creek is, I’ll definitely have to take better photos of the site because it’s AWESOME.)
The yurt itself– well, the lattice was damaged at the end of the season, and we repaired most of it but I kind of have to… assemble it to see what’s missing, I think. I’m not sure how that will go. But meanwhile I’ve hemmed and repaired all the fabric parts of it, and today’s project was GOING to be hemming the roof hole while I distilled a batch of cider, but the weather is so shit I probably won’t.
I painted the platform with salvaged oil-based paint and it’s actually quite pretty. Off-white, but whatever. I want to paint the lattice but undoubtedly won’t get to it this year. It’s not urgent, if it’s not touching the ground.
I also wanted to paint the roof rafters but I didn’t get to that either and don’t imagine I will.
I also also wanted to make windows but I won’t get to that either. If it’s up on a platform, I won’t mind hiking up the wall, as is traditional, and letting it be open to the air– elevated nearly a foot off the ground, it’s not like mice are gonna crawl in like they would if it was flat on the ground.
The farm got an Instagram and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND visiting that and looking at the videos of BABY PIGLETS etc that my sister posts there because it is A+++++ content. (Also I would like to point out that in this photo my dad is wearing the t-shirt I bought him that says BE THE TROUBLE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD and that makes my black shriveled heart a little less black and shriveled.)
I HAVE seen the Rogue One trailer, and saw it on the big screen, and I love the visuals, and I am intrigued, but I don’t know anything about it and I am not excited yet because it’s not soon enough. I have to wait to get excited about things. I am also simultaneously excited and dismayed to be in an open canon; I had a rule for a long time that I didn’t create stuff in open canons because it would just get destroyed. And I’m sinking this energy into writing about Shara Bey and Kes Dameron but that’s this same time period and I bet it all gets Jossed. But you know, there’s enough time, it probably won’t matter. It’s a big galaxy.
I love the visuals. I love seeing the Original Star Wars Settings kind of freshened up a little. I’m kiiinda pleased by how the new aesthetic of the Rebellion/Resistance is super hot Latino dudes. I’m super down. But I’m not letting myself get super invested in it yet just because I’m trying to focus, a little bit.
I might pee myself about the walkers, though, those things are so cool.
