if you are going to go tent camping in the yard with a small child to give them a fun summertime adventure and your yard happens to be a little independent diversified farm operation
do not pitch your tent within 300 yards of any pastured poultry
because the rooster crowing thing is bearable indoors but like
it sounded, at 4am, like the little rooster that lives in the pig barn (he and his hen seceded from the primary flock over the winter and now are honorary swine) was crowing inside the tent
so there was a strategic 4am retreat back to real beds, and the lesson has been learned: next time, when scouting a location, choose one far, far, far from any of the poultry containing roosters.
(there are five roosters on this farm, in two locations, and you can hear them for a startlingly long range)
(no, i was not in the tent, i had the house to myself and at 4am was like that rooster sounds like he’s indoors and then was like those sound like people indoors as well and concluded either that was the weirdest home invasion ever or the family had relocated.)
