I did. Before this week, I didn’t know any of the details about what community leaders have been proposing. It seemed like too big a project, too unwieldy, impossible to sell to a majority of voters. An anarchist pipe dream based on hopes of inherent human goodness that couldn’t possibly be true.
but look on a night like tonight in your actually neighborhoods on your actual streets, who was keeping you safe?
That’s the hard sell, right? without cops who could possibly keep us safe.
It’s your fucking neighbors and they did it really fucking well. It’s community groups and churches and BLM and independent journos and AIM patrol and off duty nurses. And hopefully now you have each others’ numbers. You know whose face is behind which door and who you borrowed a push broom from.
That’s your force.
