I love this. I LOVE THIS. Amazing. If you don’t write it, I might have to. Problem is, Poe hurts so pretty! I don’t feel the same driving need to lock Finn into a torture chair. I’m not sure what this says about me. BAMF Finn, yassss. Tortured? Meh. (I do have Poe using his words like an adult, or at least trying to, although at least every other word out of his mouth sometimes is fuck fucking fucker, but…that’s a very adult word, no? so I think that counts.
I feel bad because i don’t want to torture Finn either. And then I think, you know, I don’t actually have to feel bad about that. It’s okay. In the story so far, I have subjected Poe to a lot more torture, but part of that is that when Finn is presented with angst, he tends to analyze it and respond to it appropriately; he doesn’t fret much.
Where it becomes a problem is that then since he’s being sensible I’m less interested in showing his inner life, and that is actually a genuine problem I’ve had called out– it’s great that he gets to be so competent, but it also means we don’t see his thought processes and he sort of gets shunted to the side.
HOWEVER. Locking him into a torture chair and him literally laughing his way out of it rather than hurting pretty? Kind of awesome, honestly, and I’d love to both read and write that. Like, there he is, and why isn’t he scared? What’s wrong with him? OH because he is about to WRECK you, that’s why he’s not sweating and trembling. Oh.
And Poe is too busy being consumed with lust to be jealous about how much more badass Finn is being than he himself was in the same situation.
I mean, canon Finn is a very quick-witted character and if you add in him being Force-sensitive, you’ve kind of got a terrifying badass to contend with, that’s just how it’s going to go, so you kind of have no choice but to proceed accordingly.
