Oh and for the record, your banter is outstanding. It’s one of my main concerns as a writer too so I feel this makes me an ultimate arbiter of what is Good. (Spoiler: it doesn’t, but I still know yours is great)
Oh! Well thanks. I have the problem, though, that sometimes banter is all I want? So as I’m starting to re-attack the “finished” sequel to Home Out In The Wind that I was so pleased with myself for actually finishing before I started anything else, thinking like oh I just gotta polish this a little bit, whee, I’m sort of… realizing… that about 50k of the middle of it is just banter. It’s literally Poe and Rey sitting in a room together having conversations. Which is… I mean, people would probably read that, but… something should happen? And hilariously, I figured out midway through writing it that Finn was definitely going to have to be the Action Hero and Carry The Heroic Action Forward In The Meantime, so it’s like– Poe and Rey sitting in a room interspersed with cuts of Finn doing ridiculously heroic things to the point that I think there’s one scene that’s four paragraphs long in which he does something ridiculously badass and actually like, looks at the camera and gives an Action Hero One-Liner, and then it instantly cuts back to Poe and Rey sitting in a room having a conversation.
It is so bad.
I am so fucked.
Isn’t it funny how we kind of re-write things in our heads. I had remembered this story as being a lot, you know. Less terrible.
So, that’s the downside, but the upside means that i have at least 45k of banter scene that are gonna wind up posted on Tumblr as deleted scene extras probably, so. I mean. There’s that.
I may have some work to do, is all. Some of it is beta’d and isn’t bad but there was a point where I was like okay just put your head down and finish it, and I never got around to having betas look at it, and at that point I went off the fucking deep end. So. LOL FOREVER.
