field trip

The kids got An Outing today: a trip to the Burger King drive through for “chickens and french fries!” which they brought home and ate here.
They were so excited. It was so worth it. I had to eat a Whopper. But I also got a Coke into which I’ve poured a healthy serving of Jack Daniels and the afternoon is looking rosy indeed.
Still have to finish icing a birthday cake for the 3pm Zoom call wherein the birthday girl, 200 miles away and turning 6, is going to be having cake also. But I’m almost done with that. (Her favorite color is orange. We have two half-sets of food coloring in the house, one of which is standard and does not include the red, and the other of which is “neon” and does not include the pink, so I combined yellow and neon purple and got a pleasant sort of rust shade, onto which I’m layering yellow but I didn’t finish in time and the kids got back from the Outing and I had to hide the whole mess in the corner of the counter that they can’t reach. I’m not worried about the color much because she’s not going to be able to see the cake on the tiny screen of her mom’s phone.)
I managed to get both kids to write letters this morning, and remembered to take photographs of the letters so we can turn them into the teachers in lieu of whatever make-work writing assignments they handed out– I’m finally getting MathMom to come around to “the teacher just wants something and if you didn’t follow the exact assignment that is completely within the spirit of the Rules, despite your strict Lawful Neutral alignment, it’s really okay” philosophy. (She knows, but she doesn’t know in her heart, you know??)
Oh shit I just realized I dropped a bunch of frosting down my shirt and it’s in my bra and wow that’s kind of gross. Yikes. Please don’t let anyone walk into this room while I’m trying to fix this without taking off my bra.
