So, I’m going to take my self-isolated ass (I’m on day 12, I think?) and relocate 60 miles east to the home of my also self-isolated friend, with her two young children, and stay there for… the week? not sure how long, in an attempt to keep her children from killing and eating her. (The 5 year old is not taking self-isolation well and has un-potty-trained herself, and won’t let her mother spend enough time with the 7-year-old to even set him up to do his remote learning work, not even the setup, and she’s attempting to re-meld herself into her mother as an individual and has generally melted down. They’ve got a therapist but like, what can you even do.)

So I figure, since my sister doesn’t want me to come to the farm, I’ll go there.

The only risk is that this friend’s husband is a doctor. He’s been off work by prearrangement this past week, but he’ll be going in this coming week. Now, he’s not really a front-line worker, he’s an anaesthesiologist, so he’s got basically zero business interacting with COVID-19 patients, but. He’s definitely an exposure risk just by being at the hospital. I have no idea how risky that is, but I know he’s pretty motivated not to bring it home. If he has to isolate from his family, that’s going to make it even worse on those kids. If he doesn’t, well, then that’s an exposure risk and i guess I’ll deal. I don’t want to get stuck perpetually in quarantine there, but I’d be more useful there than here, and I’m not getting much done in my own house, I’m just freaking out. So.

People are asking how my dude will fare without me, and listen I abandon him all summer every summer, he’s used to this. I hope i can come back relatively promptly but we’ll see. He’ll be fine even if I don’t.

Anyhow, I’m just finishing breakfast and then I have to pack and hit the road. We’ll see how this goes. I should be able to post relatively as normal from there but my writing output will probably slow a bit. We’ll see.

This is god's work, and I applaud you. I find small children alternately baffling and intimidating, so I am particularly impressed.
