oh my GOD those look AMAZING
So the thing is, they are, and they’re fantastic, and we had four different kinds of them and didn’t even touch the package of gyoza I also impulse-bought, and also because I impulse-bought a TRULY VAST plastic baggie of baby bok choi we sauteed those in garlic and had An Vegetable with our meal too so it was actually kind of a balanced thingy and not a terrible idea for the body at all? and this was going somewhere grammatically and i don’t know so i’m going to stop–
oh, right, well. So the thing about Asian Food Market Up On Niagara Falls Blvd is that it is this truly vast complex, inside of an old Wal-Mart, and it is full of a lot of things, like a lot a lot? (and one of the things I was pumped to discover is that they carry Perry’s ice cream which is a regional-to-here favorite thing and I had been freaking out over my lack of ice cream so like. yesss)— it’s got mostly Chinese foods, with a healthy sampling of Vietnamese, Thai, Burmese, and some Japanese food (a little), and then a big old whack of South Asian stuff, generally Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi, but
it doesn’t really have any Central Asian stuff. Which is not surprising, as when we were there, most of the foods were either imported Chinese packaged things, or raw ingredients then locally assembled. So.
But my point is, if I want manty, I’m going to have to make them myself, which I had rather anticipated, I had just sort of been wondering if there might be something that approximately fit the bill. They had a lot of meats sliced for hotpot, and a lot of like pork chine bones and things for making broths, but no mutton. So.
The hell of it is, I have several excellent sources for mutton, just none of them are local to here, and if I’d been more on the ball during my last visit home I could have obtained it, but now I don’t know who in Western NY to buy mutton from.
But. If I make a bunch of manty, then I can probably freeze some and then we can add them to the rotation because it’s going to take us several meals to get through all of the dumplings I bought like a crazy person. So, I just have to find mutton and dial in a good recipe.
