I was freaking out because while I mostly have everything I need to survive and don’t need to deal with the freaked-out locals, most of whom just noticed the news and flipped out and went to the grocery store, I went to make a dish I had promised for this weekend and realized it calls for a stick of butter, which I don’t have. I don’t have even a single stick of butter in my house right now.
So I freaked out, and have been resigning myself to the situation– I need that butter, I need to make that dish, no i can’t substitute coconut oil or something, jeez– not that I have coconut oil at the moment– but Dude bought me some while he was out at lunch.
And while he felt the need to further freak me out by texting me photos from the local subreddit of the bare shelves of canned goods at our local grocery store (thanks, i really didn’t need that! i wasn’t planning on buying canned goods anyway??), he did come up with a great idea:
there’s a huge Asian grocery store in our city.
I bet you anything we could go there and get all the groceries our little hearts desire, because the dumbass toilet paper hoarders would never think to go to Asia Mart to do their panic-shopping.
I am going to buy all of the frozen dumplings.
(Unless I am wrong, and the hordes have descended there too. In which case, I guess good for the local hordes for not being racist, I guess.)
Also: I spent a while researching the local food scene in Buffalo and while I know literally three dozen places I could go near Troy to stock up on local food and have seen posts about all of them, I can’t find even a single local source for Buffalo. I’ll go to the co-op later, they do carry local foods, I know we have local farms, but I don’t know where to buy their stuff. It’s a little frustrating! So don’t feel bad if you too have been struggling with that last post of mine– I was spoiled by Troy and thought it must be like that other places. It’s not! Alas.
