dream fragment: zoomed in

i was watching a show or movie or something and all of it was in close-ups including action sequences and i kept being like oh my god zoom out i can’t tell what’s happening but it was all so incredibly tightly focused on the characters i couldn’t see a damn thing and i was like i mean, on the one hand that’s annoying as fuck but on the other wow that’s dedication to a cinematographic concept
i was thinking about it just now and only as i thought it through and tried to remember details was i like… that was a dream, nobody would do that
but it made me think of that as a concept. film an entire movie, with action and romance sequences and such, entirely in close-ups. you kind of can do that as a writer, but i bet it’d be incredibly distracting to try it in any kind of visual medium. no establishing shots, no panning action, no zoom-outs, no nothin.
