I did not know Fiberuary was a thing! I have a giant lace shawl I really wanna finish this month, let’s see if it happens
It’s a new thing somebody just made up and I am super pumped. Alas, I got zero things accomplished this weekend because I could not find the specific worn-out garment I was going to cut up, but. oh well.
My BFF gave me a bunch of castoff merino wool leggings because she’s under the impression my mother-not-in-law could use them in a project she’s doing with old wool sweaters but leggings with spandex in them will not do the necessary felting thing. So I am going to combine two pairs of her size-10 leggings into one pair of the size-20ish leggings I need them to be. This may or may not go well, but I’m not worried, because a) I’m going to handsew probably the entire thing, and b) if it doesn’t work then she gave me four pairs total so I’ll do some measuring and try again. I’ve no idea how negative ease actually works (I need them to be smaller than my body, unstretched, but able to become the size of my body when stretched, how do I determine how to do this? IDK I’ll just guess!) but I’m also not worried at the waste of time because I’m resigned to the fact that I actually suck at sewing and have more failures than victories. (Possibly because I am not capable of following a pattern or drafting one myself so I have no choice but to just guess at shit, and it’s not really a surprise when that often does not in any way work.)
if they wind up too enormously huge then I will use them as pajama pants. If they wind up wrong in some other way then I will cut them up and do something else. They’re too worn to donate so it’s not like I’m messing up something perfectly good.
