solarpunkwobbly:
One of the most common criticisms of anarchism is that it’s “too idealistic” to work in practice. Well here’s a wee video from 60 minutes about Eigg, the Scottish community who overthrew a cycle of wealthy landlords and bought their island back. They now manage their island communally and in a way that’s ecologically sustainable, even building their own energy infrastructure from water and wind power.
Not mentioned in the video is the fact that this mini-revolution inspired similar community buyouts throughout the Highlands and Islands, particularly in Assynt and South Uist.
