I had a brutal headache all day, like the backs of my eyes were hollowed out. I drank so much tea, and then water, and then more water, and I ate, and finally I took ibuprofen, and nothing touched it. Until finally I got home, and I poured an ounce of rum into a shotglass, and after the first quarter of the ounce, the headache was gone.
(I finished it, I’m not going to waste the stuff.)
I decided I needed dinner at a place with good wings and burgers, so we went to one down on Allen St. that we’ve frequented for about fifteen years now. it’s called Gabriel’s Gate and has a metal angel sculpture on the roof, which holds two torches that sometimes are lit with propane. But it’s hard to park down there. We ended up down a side street. About two inches of snow fell today, not enough for anyone to shovel their walks. It was icy, so i was walking carefully, but in the snow I didn’t see a spot where the sidewalk curved in to accommodate a long-gone tree, and so I rolled my ankle off the edge and ate shit into the slush.
I seem to have retained good falling instincts from roller derby, and so while I’d hit the ground hard enough to rise up feeling rubbery all over, I hadn’t actually bruised myself anywhere. But it made me shaky and cold and wet and cranky.
Fortunately, Gabe’s Gate has very good wings, and I was promptly installed with a tall double Jack and Coke. My ankle seems all right, and I might have slightly pulled my groin but actually it seems all right.
Still, today sucked. I would like it to be done. And it is; I am home on my couch, full of fried chickens, in my pajamas, and I don’t have to be at work for almost twelve hours. it’s fine. I’m fine. it’s fine.
