I hate to be the person to point this out, but usually the problem is whether or not the person consents, not the dolphin.

I have a friend who used to be a diver at Sea World and well, he had a lot of amazing stories, some of which I’ve told on here before, but like half of them were about dolphins and the shit they’d do to you

Date: 2019-12-06 11:55 pm (UTC)Frankly, my first thought was, I'm sure they understand the concept, I just don't think they regard it as important. Because I'm pretty sure that they do have a concept of want/don't want and willing/unwilling, as it applies to them (want a fish? want petting?), but applying it to other species is a very different thing... and valuing it in another species is a step beyond that. Conceptual awareness is not the same thing as empathy.
