Bro scientists are gonna be like “we just discovered dolphins can in fact consent” and it’ll be over for humanity. Your husband’s gonna come home dripping wet every night and you’re never going to ask why. Hopefully I’ll be dead by then

I…I’m not exactly sure what you’re implying but I dont think I like it

….what version of the selkie myth is this?

I hate to be the person to point this out, but usually the problem is whether or not the person consents, not the dolphin.

:OH MY GOD that’s TRUE

I have a friend who used to be a diver at Sea World and well, he had a lot of amazing stories, some of which I’ve told on here before, but like half of them were about dolphins and the shit they’d do to you

Yeaaaaaahhhh, that's a lot closer to my reaction, too.

Frankly, my first thought was, I'm sure they understand the concept, I just don't think they regard it as important. Because I'm pretty sure that they do have a concept of want/don't want and willing/unwilling, as it applies to them (want a fish? want petting?), but applying it to other species is a very different thing... and valuing it in another species is a step beyond that. Conceptual awareness is not the same thing as empathy.
