So I thought, okay, I have this goofy song that gets sung by a character in whatever the sequel to Home In The Wind is, I should at least work out how to notate the melody, since I am unlikely to be able to do more than that.
I own a harp, and studied piano as a child, so I thought, sure, I know what the notes are.
Nope. It might be part of the dyscalculia, but I just– except for looking at a piano keyboard, I CANNOT remember what order the notes go in. (Hint: It’s the alphabet, but what that means, I don’t know. I sing the Alphabet Song out loud every time I have to find something filed alphabetically. I was not cut out for a lot of things in this world, okay.)
So I’m using my chromatic tuner. I know the red is C and the blue is F but does that mean that G is before or after the blue? I don’t know!
So I played each note and looked at what the chromatic tuner said it was. (OK first i had to tune the the damn thing. But whatever.)
I felt like a twit but I couldn’t actually remember which note they were long enough to get through an entire repetition of the melody, so I had to hold the tuner for the entire thing and look every time, even when it was the same damn string.
My brain does not work very well, like, for anything, I think sometimes.
Bonus: I forgot to bring any kind of copy of the lyrics with me so I had to go from memory and I don’t know the song very well so I’m not sure I got the whole thing.
But at least I think I know what most of the notes are?
I’ve no idea how to represent the accompaniment and I need a refresher course on how tempo is explained. Ugh.
