me: *almost 10k words into writing a fic* oh hey, I think I just figured out what the actual driving emotional force of this story is
me: *after completing 150k rough draft and about 75k into posting the revised final draft publicly* ohh wait, I think I know what this is about!
me: *after tinkering with this story for over a year taking things out putting them back in, adding new stuff and switching things around and writing ~10k of notes and scenes* Nnnnnnope I still don’t know the plot of this story.
HOW DEEP DOES THIS RABBIT HOLE GO
It’s just turtles all the way down.
Nobody ever really knows what they’re doing. It’s horrible and frustrating and annoying but it is also the main reason to do it. I can only focus enough to write a story if I don’t actually know how it ends and know it will surprise me. I write to learn things, and I do.
I just wish I could learn them more efficiently….
