OH MY GOD THE LIVING ROOM IS FULL OF BATS

There are FIVE baby little brown bats clinging to the fireplace screen.

We think they have all suddenly reached the age when they learn to fly, and a lot of them are falling instead, and then they're at the bottom of the chimney space, and they crawl out the convenient little hole there, and then they're in the living room and are like oh uhhh what is this place?
So they can't get back up to the nest, and their moms don't know where they are, and BIL says we should just put the firescreen outside, but we already know they won't do anything all day and it's supposed to be rainy. So...
Farmkid is at a sleepover at Grandma's, so. Sister just shut the door the living room and has given it over to the bats for the day. In the evening when the rest of the colony wakes up, she's going to try moving the firescreen full of baby bats outside so their moms can find them.

And then she's got to find that hole they're crawling through and figure out a way to block it.

This sounds like a really difficult wildlife situation to manage, but that you're working really hard to do the best thing for the bats, which is wonderful. I hope the bat babies are able to be reunited with their parent!

My mother was just telling me yesterday about how bats can have rabies. The CDC says never to handle a bat.
