A photo from when we got the yurt set up last time I visited.

First chicken I roasted this season! From the ones we processed Tuesday.

Visitor to the yurt, now that I've got the interior largely set up: Whiskey the cat.
And a moody scenery shot:

The Team meeting in the barnyard one morning to discuss the week's upcoming work and schedules.

Date: 2019-06-04 05:58 pm (UTC)Ironically enough that barn is the newest of the old structures on the site, dating to 1943; the other outbuildings and the house are all between 1789 and 1835. (And then there's the new barn they built last year, but that's hard to mistake, as the entire southern wall is greenhouse plastic.)

Date: 2019-06-05 01:37 am (UTC)I did talk to my dad this evening, and he wasn't positive about the build date on the barns, but estimated it around probably 1870 or so. the house was built in 1857 or so, so the barns might actually be close to that age as well. I'd been thinking 1890s, but they definitely predate 1900, though those you mentioned are far older

Date: 2019-06-04 06:04 pm (UTC)It's just that sometimes around 3am she likes to go out hunting, and then bring her kills back to the yurt to eat in safety, and then she goes and gets another one for me, and then tries to give it to me. It's very sweet but also extremely horrifying. I have learned to ignore wet crunching noises in the early dawn hours.
I almost posted this photo of her too:
There's a potting bench, see, in the greenhouse (next to the yurt), where they do their potting-up and seeding and such, but Veg Manager has dubbed it the Petting Bench because that's what Whiskey thinks it's for. She stands on it and gets petted! It tends to make the greenhouse workers a little less productive in terms of greenhouse work, but it's not really a loss, per se, because petting the cat is So Important to the overall karma of the farm...
