Thanks! The thing is, I am incapable of writing short works– I write because I like to get really immersed in stuff, and if you do that you often wind up with your characters being generally more fleshed-out than people who write shorter works, mostly because it’s super hard to get to know somebody in like 4k of words the way you can in 40k!
That said, I did literally just this minute close a window with a really good short Competent!Finn story in it. Ah, here– by @coffeeinallcaps– Not Just One Time– pretty good, and I’m an asshole and didn’t leave a comment so at least I can rec, right? LOL.
My Poe is actually super super super damaged and I’m dealing with the fact that my rough draft kind of handwaves that, and I really should give Finn a chance to get good and mad about how shitty Poe is actually treating him by not telling him anything and just– being super passive and keeping his nervous breakdown to himself and all. Poe really thinks he’s going to die, though, is half-convinced he already is, so it’s hardly fair to judge him, but like it or not he has to be responsible for the fact that he’s making no meaningful attempt to spare Finn from that.
So anyway. It’s a damn good thing Finn is competent because he’s going to have to save the day in the end, most likely. :)
