bomberqueen17 SO. you did miss the point of this post in it’s entirety and even if I’m usually buck wild for gondorian world building, this specific post was about how great a Denethor/Aragorn romantic ship would be on account of their canon interactions and large shared history
ohhhhhh sorry I got super blindsided by my overwhelming recollection of the LotR fandom from uhhhhh twelve years ago, that I missed the slash aspect of it and went straight into the just-in-general relationship, because like, that was some pretty rich material there. It is a relationship that has been explored, just not romantically in that instance. But like. Even non-romantically, I figured it was still relevant because they are clearly pretty intensely paired.
But I was so. So so so. So obsessed with that fic so long ago. And I had completely forgotten it. And it was kind of mind-blowing to remember that that entire fic existed and still does, so I got pretty caught up in it.
I maintain, on more sober reflection, that this is still a relevant rec if you’re interested in the characters, and you wouldn’t find it if you were only looking for slash and due to its age it’s likely that even people interested in those characters might not find it unaided, but I also agree, someone should write the slash version of this because no, this fic doesn’t go the specific place you were wishing for, sexually. It’s just that if a perfect fic doesn’t exist, sometimes a not quite but almost rec is still worth making, and I’m sorry that the romance was the entire point for you, but there are probably some other readers who would still be interested, and who knows, reading it could possibly even inspire another writer to go where you were actually hoping with the slash part of it. Sometimes that’s how transformative fandoms work? I’m not being snippy, I’m being genuine here.
