your page numbers are totally different from my book but i’d love that bit where Csevet goes HAVE YOU GONE MAD and then immediately offers to quit his job
had to remove it to take this screencap, but i have that whole sequence highlighted with an annotation that just says

Having read the thing now finally–
what gets me upon rereading this scene is, well you know how Maia is kind of an unreliable narrator so he’s definitely underselling most of these things– surely by this point all the people who are with him all the time have noticed his trauma-response of whenever anyone raises their voice he flinches. and Csevet. Just. Yelled at him. So loud he stepped back! Of COURSE Csevet is UTTERLY MORTIFIED– it’s not even that Maia’s the emperor, it’s that he’s an obviously-traumatized teenager and Csevet FORGOT and YELLED AT HIM and of course he wants to cease existing now HE MADE HIS BOY FLINCH.
The scene doesn’t specify which nohecharei were on duty but it has to have been the seconds, Beshelar would possibly have murdered Csevet already. (most people who yell at Maia are too high-ranking for Beshelar to murder but he definitely does the mental math every time.)
