I washed my hair yesterday evening and left it down to dry and went to bed with it half-dried and so this morning when I went to put it up it was too slippery to get to stay at all and so now it’s in a lumpy slidey braid that won’t stay where I put it.

All y’all with hair that has texture of any kind, I know you have a much harder row to hoe in general, and I feel you, but I’m just going to whine about my bodiless, flat, completely un-do-anything-with-able hair for a second.

Also I realized I’ve had it in protective styles and have been giving it bare minimum maintenance trims for a decade now and it has never gone beyond high tailbone length so clearly that’s my terminal, and that’s a little depressingly short for terminal but whatever. It doesn’t matter; if it were any longer, I’d probably have to cut it, so I won’t really fuss over it.

Huh, I’ll be 40 this year, and haven’t changed my hairstyle since I was 15. Neat!

Yeah, what I didn't say in that post where I had my hair braided and clipped up was that I never even attempt to style it unless it's soaking wet. So I'll join you in this whining. My hair slips around too much when it's dry, and I hate having anything on my head or body that shifts around when I move, so. Either I put it up after taking a shower, or all I do is put it in a super tight ponytail. I used to wear it down a lot, but that's just not practical when I have to walk outside in the wind to go anywhere, instead of driving.

I usually let mine dry to dampness, and then style it, but. I don't wash it that often! I wish it had a little texture; it starts to look oily long before I'm ready to wash it, and dry shampoo doesn't seem to do me any good.

I can't bear to wear it down for anything but sitting on the couch waiting for it to dry. Down, it gets in my face and bothers me, and tangles around my arms, and it becomes so tangled almost instantly that I just can't function, and it takes me hours and hours to comb it again. I wore my hair down for a photo shoot in 2009, I think, and another one in around 2012, and apart from that I don't think I've had my hair loose except for rare overnight occasions.

Sometimes people are like "why have it long if you're never going to wear it down?" and I'm like 'because if i have it short i have to style it daily???" and that usually blows their minds.

Mine isn't So Long that it's unmanageble when it's down, but I agree, the point of long hair is definitely not to wear it down. The point of long hair is to put it up and have it *stay* up.
