I have a pinched nerve that pops up sometimes in my back, between my shoulder blade and my neck, and when it's like that it makes the fingers of that hand very slightly tingle. It's doing that, at the moment. Normally, it happens when I've slept really funny or when I wear a halter top. Neither is the case today, but I am wearing a racer-back bra, and my backpack, while no heavier than usual, was bothering me strangely on the walk in, so I don't know.
I might just diagnose myself with being 39, that seems to be the way of it.
How is it already Friday??? i've been ready for a weekend since Tuesday morning but that doesn't mean I expected it.
I have been spending my unsupervised early mornings at work doing... well, I always do some work, it's just that nobody else is in the office between nine and ten thirty or so, so while I've got things up on my screen and I'm working on them kind of desultorily, I also can pretty unabashedly just do whatever all over the rest of my desk. I garbage-picked a few cardstock things that were destined for the trash (we don't recycle here, eyeroll) and cut them all into hexagon templates, so now I have an unreal quantity of the things.
Today I brought in some small bits of fabric, and sat and cut them into the correct size to wrap around the templates.
I also ran a little stopwatch; it takes me two minutes, if all goes reasonably well, to get the fabric onto the template, if I start with the needle already threaded and the thread knotted. Which seems a good figure to be going on with. I've made several dozen at this point, and have begun to think about what other fabrics I have that would be suitable. I have a vague notion that I'd like every color of the rainbow, because quilts that have spectrums in them generally appeal to me more than random confetti ones. But I'm not sure what I've got.
I do have a fair amount of undyed fabric and unused dyes, but oh, I didn't tell this story-- when the workmen were installing our water heater, they had to unhook the stove I have set up in the basement next to the laundry machines, and they didn't hook it back up! I complained of this to Dave and he was like "oh they asked if we were using it and I said no."
!!!!! He helped me hook it up in the first place and it was a huge hassle and we figured it out but it was terrifying. Why the actual fuck-- ugh! And he was like "oh they didn't hook it back up?" Dude they were asking that so they'd know if they had to hook it back up. There's no other reason to ask that. Did he think they came all the way upstairs to make conversation????
So I won't be doing any acid dyeing anyway, because that requires heat and I'm not doing it on the kitchen stove. Or I guess maybe I will; if Dude doesn't care if there's dye all over the kitchen, clearly, then I won't either! The point was that I wouldn't have to be careful if it was the basement, and the washing machine is right there so I can just tip the finished product in there for a final rinse.
Anyway. I am really annoyed by this pinched nerve, and also I'm having worse than usual of late (for me) menstrual cramps, so I'm a bit cranky. I had such a fantastic useless weekend last week I was really hoping to get a lot done this week, and I just don't know how it's gonna go.
(Why the fuck did he tell the workmen that it was fine to just not hook the stove back up??? No, I haven't used it in a while, but I didn't haul it the fuck down there and teach myself how to work gas lines to just... take up fucking space, now did I?????????)
Oh and also twice this week, in the first week of this water heater's existence, we've had to troop dripping to the basement and reset it when it failed to light, so that's annoying.
