day off? off day

I decided that i had to Do The Grocery Shopping in my free day today.
This paid off immediately when I went back to where my car was parked, at the back of the driveway near the garage, and happened to look into the backyard, where lo! there was a box! lying in the snow!
and it was the wooden mammoth that
buttonsbeadslace had mailed to me! it was supposed to have arrived Saturday and I wasn't here, and so I looked for it when I got home Sunday, and didn't find it, and had been waiting and sort of starting to worry...
Amusingly, we got one of those "We Missed You" slips stuck in our door on Tuesday night. But it was weird, because firstly, it had nothing checked off. It said "Letter", but it didn't say "certified" or "signature required" or anything. It also said, "See reverse for instructions" but it was a photocopy of the regular slip so there was nothing on the reverse. And it said "Final Notice" but was the first one we'd gotten.
So Dude took it to the post office yesterday morning. The lady took it, looked at it, looked at his ID, came back out, looked at his ID again, proceeded to be very puzzled, puzzled over the thing a bit, finally asked if Dude knew who the person's name on the letter was. Nobody we'd ever heard of.
It was for a house with the same number as ours, on a street that started with the same letter as ours, but otherwise had nothing to do with us and was for a total stranger. LOL. False alarm!
Anyway. I went to the grocery store because we tried to get everything at the farmer's market and farm this past weekend, but of course missed some basics, and we couldn't make anything else with what we had.
It wasn't my brightest idea. Once I was there, I felt light-headed again, despite just having had a big bowl of oatmeal with protein powder and peanut butter and yogurt and raisins. It's not blood sugar!
I might be having trouble breathing? I've been getting short of breath whenever I move around. It was fine on my walking commutes, though? So I don't know. My nail beds are normal-colored, at least. I don't know what else to check. I used to have that problem with roller derby-- it would take a bit for my lungs to catch up, so I'd spend the beginnings of workouts short of breath and dizzy. My coach clearly thought I was just fat, but then at the end of practice I'd still be going when a lot of others had gotten tired and were flagging, so it wasn't that, but I never did figure out what the problem was. I think my lungs just don't quite work right in winter.
Anyway, I had to buy chicken at the grocery store, to my shame, so I bought boneless thighs because we don't debone the thighs at the farm. I also had to buy broth, because I have no bones to make my own stock from; I made the last of what I had from the saved wing bones, and used it to make butternut squash soup with the last squash I had. Listen, i was only trying to take the personal-use meat from the farm, so I got some venison and some lamb, but I didn't get any pork or chicken, and I can't bring myself to buy pork anywhere. Chicken, though, I can suck it up and buy.
I'm gonna make butter chicken in the new Instant Pot and nobody can stop me. Except my own utter inability to find coconut cream, unsweetened, in a tin.
Tonight is going to be a beet risotto with chevre, though, because the recipe looked good and it seemed unchallenging to figure out how to use the instant-pot with such a recipe. However, I badly want to use the beet greens, and I'm not sure I can cram them in there. Also I bought a whole red cabbage and am not sure where I'll use most of it.

Date: 2019-01-18 12:51 am (UTC)The beets came in a bunch of four, with greens, and so now I have four sets of beet greens and two beets left to do something with but I don't know what.
I have to take a nice photo of the mammoth so I can use it as an icon on here, LOL.
