oh man i totally forgot about this picture, which I took from the front porch area of the yurt in summer of 2017 and it was So Goddamn Dramatic, one of those weather formation moments where you feel like you have to stand there until it fades-- anyway!


Also someone on Tumblr asked if you could embed photos from Google Photos and was it worth getting a Google account and honestly I have no idea, I've had an account since about '02 but I don't know about the photos. Let me try, as an experiment. I will tell you for certain, Flickr gives you a nice embed code with maybe some scripts and tracking shit in it but it's beautifully formatted so I don't mind. Google does not, they want you to just share an album they retain control over. But I copied the image location, and we'll see:

Tentative answer is yes. Formatting is hideous. Not sure if image will be visible to others? It's an experiment. Please let me know whether my glasses are cute y/y?

The links change after a day or two. I tried that and I was really confused for a little while as to where my picture had gone. It came back and it's actually still there but not a solid static link. Which is why I got a Flickr account because at least it won't do it on purpose.

I can still see the image, though, on a different device, but most other people can't see it? IDK. IDK! Who knows why anything is anything.

Now that I saw what you were talking about, it could have been on a different device without a google account on it. I can't remember which device I was looking at it. Either way, not reliable so it doesn't really matter lol.

The google informed me that the links change but who knows if that's actually true.

For me the google photo is only showing up as a gray "this isn't working" symbol.

I do have a Google account, and I'm logged into it in this browser, so it's not that. I had a Thought and tried using Chrome instead (I usually use Firefox) but the photo still doesn't show up.

Suspicion: the image link isn't static, so people who viewed it right away could see it, but people who viewed it in a different "session" of the server couldn't because it moved.
IDK, it's plausible.

I do, but it's tied to my meatspace name and I don't use it fannishly. I don't trust google to keep those separate.

Not sure what qualifies as having a Google account. I have a gmail.com account and I tried looking at this post while logged into Gmail in another browser window. Alas, I cannot see the photo of you in your new glasses. Good luck with figuring out a photo hosting solution that works for you!

PS: I like the Dramatic weather photo. I so know the feeling of "this looks amazing!" and trying to capture the actual feeling in a photo.

I'm logged into chrome and the second picture is just a small grey circle with a horizontal white line. Like a no entry traffic sign.

Yeah, I think the Google Photos URL isn't static, is the issue. That's what I suspect anyway.
