i am officially Old.

so we moved the online department to the store closer to my house, which is also actually in the city and not out in the suburbs like the old location. I love it because i can walk there and like the staff. Mostly the staff is oldish dudes who’ve been there forever. the clientele is great too, it’s not just all cranky old entitled white people, it’s a much more diverse group of people. Also the staff in the evenings tends to be college kids.

this is why i am so Old. the college kids. I get along fine with them, they’re perfectly nice kids for the most part (except when I’m a grouch to them, but like, sometimes you gotta). But yesterday.

One of them came upstairs to get something. I was out in the main room with the light tent taking photos of used equipment. He talked to me for a moment, we had a pleasant conversation.

He was wearing a winter coat and what looked like leggings. Black leggings with dark red roses on them. And I thought, oh, is he uh, is he gender nonconforming, is that the deal? i had no idea. i couldn’t remember his name but iirc it was definitely a Boy Name. in my mind, those were definitely Girl Pants. but maybe boys wear Girl Pants now? you know? I spend a lot of time on the internet and am uncomfortably aware that the internet is way more into gender nonconformity than real life, and you don’t want to like engage people in inappropriately-deep conversations about their sexuality and genderfeels in person, and other things he'd said in our brief acquaintance had really read as "straight dude" to me, and so like...

Later I saw him with his coat off and they were clearly-- well, they were jeans, in styling, but. They were just so tight and insubstantial that with the combo of his winter boots, they looked like leggings.

And I said this with my own mouth to my coworker, I was like, the kids these days! the boys wear jeggings! is that what the kids do now?! and my coworker just looked at me with pity and said, “Girl, we old.”

I'm a decade (I think?) younger, and I am horrified by the fact that people wear leggings with tshirts and athletic wear other than to do athletic stuff. Meanwhile my mum spent five years about a decade ago trying to get me to buy jeans that were floral, printed, or a colour other than black/blue/grey.

Plus I've never really been good at being The Youth, so eh.

Oh that is hilarious. The store in working at now does not have men's jeggings, but they do have men's skinny jeans and a confusing-to-me number of men's and boys' clothes in pale lilac purple. I guess that color is in this year? Learning to tell what department a given t-shirt belongs in is definitely the strangest thing I've had to learn so far.

My first impulse to start recommending you specific shirts, because I unpacked so many men's clothes yesterday and it's fresh in my mind, but I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to sell you things lol. I have too much new clothing-knowledge in my head and I don't know what to do with it.

Okay, here goes :) So the main thing I was thinking of when I made that comment was this sweatshirt, because I've twice had to stop people from putting it in the women's section. But there's also this purple plaid shirt, and this pink flannel shirt... oh and this other purple plaid shirt. I think there are some purple T-shirts too. And we do appear to have tall sizes, at least online.

I'm generally not horrified by young'uns' sartorial choices (they're horrified by mine). Although I will cop to being a little pearl clutchy about employees a decade and a half younger than me wearing leggings as pants to work.

But let me tell you, there's nothing to make you feel washed up like a 7 year old coming up to the library desk looking tragic and saying, "Miss I can't do Roblox" and you're forced to admit, "Smol child, neither can I," and you both have to recruit a handy 12 year old. Luckily, there is a reasonable supply of good-natured 12 year olds at my library and if they are snickering at the elderly librarian, it's where I can't see them. I appreciate that.

LOL! Yep. I was at a morris dancing do and got chatting with a female spectator who was wearing an undercut hairdo dyed purple, white and black, in purple white, black and grey trousers and a plaid shirt. I was like "Oh, are those ace colours?!" and she looked at me like she wasn't sure she'd heard me right and said "they're the colours of my morris dancing side." My LGBT-dar is clearly nonexistent.

lol Yep, we have colours and logos and groupies :) Sutton Masque, which is my most popular one has a t-shirt for the dancers and a special different t-shirt for the supporters. Supporters tend to heckle from the sidelines, carry bags and hand out bread-and-butter-pudding :)

Hence the honed morris dancing figure of toned legs with muscular thighs and calves, and a father-Christmas-like stomach :)
